When I made the decision to move out of my mom’s place in Long Island to an apartment in Manhattan I immediately started doing my research. I researched potential neighborhoods, the cost for the apartments in those neighborhoods, and the subway system in each area. I then started working on my finances. Once I was ready I began to actively search by myself and, eventually, with a roommate. We had some hiccups along the way (read crooked brokers), but eventually found the apartment that was a good enough fit for us (good enough being the size was less than ideal but the neighborhood was great and it was within our price range). In the video below I share some of the things I encountered during the search in hopes of helping you with yours.
